    Juan Antonio Madrazo Luna

    Synopsis:

    Cuba is recognized for its principles of racial equality. However, this is another one of the myths surrounding the process known as the Cuban Revolution. Madrazo Luna has dedicated part of his life and studies to denouncing racial discrimination on the island, and he applies his understanding of intersectionality to his work at the CIR–all this is part of our conversation here.

    Bio:

    Juan Antonio Madrazo Luna (Havana,1968) is a human rights observer with a degree in Cultural Studies, and the coordinator of the Comité Ciudadanos por la Integración Racial (CIR), a civil society platform created in 2008 by a group of activists, academics and community leaders sensibilized to visibilizing Cuba´s racial problematic in the public sphere.

    The CIR also develops its fieldwork as activists by accompanying the struggles of women, the LGBTIQ+ community and urban underground cultural activism. Together with the CIR he is co-author of the thematic reports Discriminación en el Mercado Laboral Cubano and Represión: Situación de Derechos Humanos de los Afrodescendientes en Cuba. He has participated in the Cuban section of the Latin American Social Sciences Association (LASA), participating in several of their conferences as an independent researcher.
