    Synopsis:
    A conversation about the historic problems and the actions taken by afrofeminism in the face of different types of patriarchy and hegemonic feminism, particularly in the Cuban context.

    Bio:

    Sandra Abd’Allah-Alvarez Ramírez (Havana, September 12, 1973) is a researcher, essayist, activist and Cuban blogger; she is an activist for the rights of women, black people and afro-descendents as well as the LGTBI community. She lives between Havana and Hannover.

    She has a degree in psychology from the University of Havana (1996), a Master´s in Gender Studies (2008) and a degree in Gender and Communication from the Instituto Internacional de Periodismo José Martí. For over 10 years she was the editor of the Cuban literature website Cubaliteraria. She is the author of the blog «Negra cubana tenía que ser», launched in June 2006. There she shares articles and information against racism, sexism, homophobia and other discriminations faced by women in Cuba. She runs the Directorio de Afrocubanas, a digital tool that compiles entries about Cuban Afro Descendent women who have contributed significantly to Cuban culture and history.

    She is also a black cyberfeminist from the women´s group Afrocubanas, a group of activists linked to art and culture that published the book Afrocubanas: historia, pensamiento y prácticas culturales. She belongs to the Articulación Regional Afrodescendiente, an organization has a chapter in Cuba. She collaborates with the publications and platforms Pikara Magazine, Global Voices, El Toque and Hablemos de sexo y amor. In 2015 she founded Azúcar&Kalt, Hannover´s first Spanish-language magazine.
