    Synopsis:

    In this session, a sociologist analyzes her formative experiences, addressing the problem of aging in the midst of the multidimensional crisis experienced by the nation of Cuba and outlining lines of action to attend to this phenomenon.

    Bio:

    Elaine Acosta

    Researcher associated with the Cuban Research Institute and Florida International University, and the Executive Director of CuidO60-Observatorio de Envejecimiento, cuidados y derechos. A doctor in International and Intercultural Studies from the Universidad de Deusto, Bilbao. Master´s in Latin American Social and Political Studies from the ILADES, Santiago de Chile with a degree in Sociology from the Universidad de La Habana, Cuba. She has been director of the Master's in Sociology at the Universidad Alberto Hurtado in Chile (2013-2016) and director of the Diplomado en Humanismo y Sociedad (2009-2016), a program co-directed by the Universidad Alberto Hurtado de Chile and the Centro Fray Bartolomé de las Casas de La Habana in Cuba.

    Her areas of study are the work of caretaking, welfare policies and aging, in addition to international migration, rights and citizenry. She has carried out studies and consulting for foundations, international organisms and a variety of ministries and services in different regions of the world. She is the author of several publications on issues of gender, international migration, the care crisis, aging, childhood and welfare policies. Her most recent book is called Crisis de cuidados, envejecimiento y políticas de bienestar en Cuba.
