    Synopsis:

    In today's meeting, the visual artist Tania Bruguera will share her experiences in using art as a mediation resource in authoritarian contexts.


    Bio:

    A graduate of the Higher Institute of Art of Havana and the Art Institute of Chicago, she is currently a professor at the Faculty of Humanities at Harvard University. She was one of the main guests at documenta 15 in Kassel in 2022 together with the Hannah Arendt Institute of Artivism (INSTAR), a project founded and directed by Bruguera to promote civic culture and social justice in Cuba through art.A Throughout his career he has collaborated with institutions such as the Tate Modern, the MoMA, the Van Beuningen Museum and the National Museum of Fine Arts in Havana, and has participated in international events such as the Kassel documenta and the Venice, Sao Biennials. Paulo, Shanghai and Havana.

    She has been awarded prizes such as the Velázquez Prize for Fine Arts (2021), the Arnold Bode Prize (2021), the Meadows Prize (2013), the Prince Claus Prize (2008) and the Guggenheim Fellowship (1997). Some of his most notable works are the performance El peso de la culpa (1997-99), the behavioral art piece Destierro (1998-99), the installation Untitled (Havana, 2000) and the performance series El Susurro by Tatlin. She has also promoted the creation of projects with a pedagogical aspect such as the Conduct Art Chair in Havana, the Useful Art Association, the International Immigrant Movement and INSTAR.
