    Bio:

    David Escalona Carrillo
    (Havana, 1984)

David Escalona Carrillo is a musician and painter. His artistic formation is in the city of Alamar as a part of the interdisciplinary project Omni-Zona Franca. A self-taught artist, at 16 he left the Cuban educational system and began teaching himself outside of the political indoctrination practiced in Cuban schools.

His music is a mix of art rock, new age, experimental music and world music, and shows a strong influence of urban genres such as Hip Hop, Reggae and electronic music.

His first albums, La rueda (2009), Tokan Tokao (2010), A la guachornein a la pipol nao (2011), El Árbol (2011) and Free Hop (2012), represent an experimental period heavily influenced by Hip Hop. Following his 2013 album 360º, he enters a more conceptual period, distancing himself from the labels of specific musical genres. His subsequent albums are: Iguales (2014), Recopilando Historias (2015), Suaesito (2015), Albañil A (2016), Ánima (2016) and Fantasma Cívico (2017).
