    Synopsis:

    Kirenia Yalit talks about her motives for joining the political opposition and her work providing psychological accompaniment to the victims of state repression and their families, as well as her extensive experience with the Mesa de Diálogo de la Juventud Cubana.

    Bio:

    Kirenia Yalit Núñez Pérez is an activist with a degree in psychology. From 2009 to 2013 she worked as a social researcher and beginning in 2012 she began working at the Comisión Cubana de Derechos Humanos y Reconciliación Nacional (CCDHRN). In 2014 she became coordinator of the Mesa de Diálogo de la Juventud Cubana (MDJC) where she still works today. She has participated in the women's leadership internship program the Escuela Regional de Liderazgos de Mujeres, held by the Instituto de Liderazgo Simone de Beauvoir (Mexico, 2017) and in 2018 participated in the leadership event the Academia de Liderazgo Regional: Generation Democracy, in Panama.

    During 2020 she graduated from the course Curso Interamericano de Elecciones y Democracia: “Avances y retrocesos de la democracia en América Latina” (IIDD/CAPEL, 2020). She has participated as a civilian representative on four occasions in the activities surrounding the General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS) and on two occasions has attended the Summit of the Americas. She has given conferences and workshops for youth and adolescents on issues related to human rights and vocation and has worked as the coordinator of the youth campaigns Poder Joven Cuba and #Exprésate.
