    Synopsis:

    The director of Espacio Interior speaks about his theater formation with Vicente Revuelta; the history of theater in Camagüey, the economic and conceptual challenges required to sustain a project like his for decades while surviving institutional censorship.

    Bio:

    Mario Junquera is a theater director, educator and playwright and a graduate of the Escuela nacional de Arte (ENIT) specializing in directing and acting. In 1990, he founds the group Teatro del Espacio Interior. He has taught at the Facultad de Ballet y Medios Audiovisuales (School of Ballet and Audiovisual Media) in Camagüey, where he redesigned the program in stage direction. He has given master classes at the Encuentro Nacional de Teatros de Investigación-Cienfuegos, and at the ISA Havana´s Facultad de Medios Audiovisuales. He is one of the founding professors of the Escuela de Instructores de Teatro (School for Theater Professors) in Camagüey, and teaches at the Brotfabrik-Bonn Theater, the Tanz Teatro-Dusseldorf in Germany, at the Academie voor Theater en Dans, and at the Amsterdamse Hogeschhhl voor en Kunsten, in Holland. He participated in the Odin Week theater festival in Holstembru (Denmark) and directs and organizes the Evento Internacional Experimenta 1 Teatro, which hosts groups and researchers from more than six countries. He gives conferences and workshops at the Instituto Superior de Arte ISA´s Drama School (Havana). He has received, among other awards, the Premio nacional de la crítica teatral, for Ghetto de Corderos, the Premio de Puesta en escena, for the play Rebis, the VI Festival Nacional de Teatro de Camagüey´s Honorable Mention for Experimental UNO Teatro, the Consejo Nacional de las Artes Escénicas´s Honorable Mention and Medal for Cuban National Culture, for artistic and educational creations during over 20 years of work, and the Premio nacional de la crítica teatral for the production El hombre Inmóvil at the Jornada Villanueva.
