    Synopsis:

Yunior guides us through a historiographic overview of drama in Cuba since 1959, what became of it under the control of state cultural policy, censorship and exile, and his experience as a playwright and actor.

    Bio:

    Yunior García Aguilera
    (Holguín, 1982)

Yunior is a successful actor and playwright. His critical perspectives on Cuban theater make him an eternal researcher into new forms of saying and doing, impregnating his works with an original touch. He began writing for his peers, but he also wants to leave a legacy of knowledge about Cuba´s present reality for future generations.

In the fourth grade he began acting and writing when he and two classmates made up their own theater group, called Arroz con Pollo, to put on plays, primarily comedies. Since discovering theater in Holguín he joined the Asociación Hermanos Saíz (AHS), which gives him the possibility of participating in workshops, sharing with other creators, organizing events and publishing his work. He has worked in artistic direction for the theater company Alas Buenas, a repertory troupe for children and adult audiences, putting on plays such as Todos los hombres son iguales and Sangre, the latter receiving seven awards in the Santa Clara Festival Nacional de Pequeño Formato.

At 17, Yunior aced his entrance exams to the Escuela Nacional de Arte (ENA) in acting. It was there that they taught him to see theater not as a pastime but as a profession. Alas Buenas prepared him to later participate in the creation of the Trébol Teatro, in 2003, for young graduates of the ENA, born out of the need to create a space where young people had a voice as artists, both in terms of content and aesthetics. In 2003 he graduated as an actor with the highest honors from the Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA) with the group Teatro de la Luna, with La boda, a Virgilio Piñera play. He participated in the playwriting workshop of the Royal Court Theatre in Havana. Subsequently, he was awarded the opportunity to participate in the writing of a play to be premiered in London during the 2012 Olympic Games, and has worked with writers from other countries (Dominican Republic, Colombia, Mexico, the UK, Brazil, the United States, Nigeria).

He has written television scripts for series such as SOS, academia, directed by Rubén Consuegra, and the film Ni pocos ni locos, Cerdo (fiction short, 2018), presented at the 40th edition of the Festival Internacional de Cine Latinoamericano.
