    Synopsis:

    The prolific Cuban filmmaker in exile Ricardo Acosta looks back on his generation´s artistic enthusiasm that defied the official aesthetic paradigms of production with an uncomfortable, experimental and openly political filmography.

    Bio:

    A member of the Academia de Artes y Ciencias Cinematográficas and a film editor, as well as story and creative consultant of international repute, Ricardo Acosta has worked in the film industry for over 25 years. He is an Emmy winner that has also been nominated several times for the Genie, Gemini, CCE and CS Awards. Ricardo arrived to Canada from his native Cuba in 1993, where he studied and worked at the internationally recognized Instituto de Cine Cubano in Havana. He has been a member of the Sundance Institute (as a student, professor and consultant) during several years as part of the Documentary Edit and Story Lab and the Music and Sound Design Lab. His distinguished work and keen sense of the human condition have led several of his films to win or be nominated for awards and shown at international film festivals, among them: Once Upon a Time in Venezuela (2020) by Anabel Rodríguez and Sepp Brudermann (story editor), world premiere at Sundance 2020; The Silence of Others (2018), winner of the Audience Award for Documentary at the Berlinale Panorama 2018, as well as GOYA winner 2019 and ALMA winner 2019; ¡Sembene! (2015) directed by Jason Silverman and Samba Gadjigo, premiered at Sundance and Cannes; Marmato (2014), directed by Mark Grieco, premiered at Sundance. Ricardo also won Best Editing of a Documentary at the Canadian Cinema Editors Awards 2015 for his work on Marmato. With Casa de Herman (2012) directed by Angad Bhalla, the 2013 Emmy winner for Outstanding Cultural Program, Ricardo was nominated for Best Documentary Film Editing at the Premios CSA 2014.
