    Synopsis:

    Actors speak to us about the tradition of children's theater in Cuba beginning with the founding of the Guiñol Nacional, their experience in the field, the cases of censorship and repression during critical moments for the establishment of ideological parameters, like the UMAP and the Quinquenio Gris, and how this affected puppeteers.

    Bio:

    Carmela Antonia Núñez Linares
    (Havana Cuba, 1973)

    Carmela Antonia Núñez Linares holds degrees in playwriting from the Instituto Superior de Arte (1998), in Children's Theater and Puppeteering from the Instituto Superior de Arte (2001), in the Curso Superior Humanismo y Sociedad from the Centro Fray Bartolomé de las Casas (2001), in Popular Education from the Asociación de Pedagogos de Cuba (2016), a certificate in playwriting from the Royal Court Theatre in England (2005), and a Master's in Desarrollo Social y Voluntariado from the UCAM, in Murcia, Spain (2011-2013). She has been an actress in the Grupo Kele-Kele (1993) and the Vital Teatro (1994) and she has worked at the Centro de Teatro y Danza in Havana and as a specialist in Children's Theater in coordination with the Consejo Nacional de las Artes Escénicas (1998). She is the director and founder of Teatro Viajero (1999) and works as an actress and playwright in this same group. She has participated in several tours, workshops and events both nationally and internationally and is the creator and founder of the Cátedra de formación Artística Loyola (2014). She received a grant for artistic creation from the Brazilian Embassy in Cuba for the play La farsa del buey o el deseo de Catalina (2014), and first prize at the Festival de Arte Efímero, Centro de Experimentación de las Artes Visuales (2016), among other awards. With the puppet creation workshop “Mágica Travesía” she offers pedagogical programs both in Cuba and internationally.


    Leovaldo Díaz Fernández
    (Havana Cuba, 1976)

    Leovaldo Díaz Fernández holds degrees in acting from the Centro de Superación Profesional (2006), in Humanismo y Sociedad from the Centro Fray Bartolomé de las Casas (2001), in Children's Theater and Puppeteering from the Instituto Superior de Arte (2001), and in Popular Education from the Asociación de Pedagogos de Cuba (2016). He is also a graduate of the Escuela para la Formación de Mimos Mime School in Havana. He has participated in several artistic projects with the Asociación Hermanos Saíz in Santiago, Cuba as part of the youth comedy project PUSS_JO. He is one of the founding actors of the Grupo Teatro al Sur, in Santiago, Cuba, an actor in the project Teatro para niños and a founding member of the group Teatro Viajero. He has participated in numerous tours, festivals and workshops in Cuba and internationally and is a member of the Asociación Internacional de Teatro para niños y jóvenes ASITEJ. In the year 2004, he won the Beca Milanés granted by the A.H.S. for the play El Largo Viaje de un Caracol, and the A.H.S. acting award at the last edition of the children's theater festival El Cochero Azul. He has been on the jury of different national events on behalf of the Asociación Hermanos Saíz, the UNIMA and TABLAS Magazine. He received a grant for artistic creation from the Brazilian Embassy in Cuba for the play La farsa del buey o el deseo de Catalina (2014), and first prize at the Festival de Arte Efímero (2016). With the puppet creation workshop “Mágica Travesía” he offers pedagogical programs in Cuba and internationally. Additionally, he won the Distinción Raúl Gómez García granted by the Cultural Workers´ Union in 2008 and the Sello XXV Aniversario de la Asociación Hermanos Saiz 2011.
