    Synopsis:

    Conversation with Esteban Rodríguez, independent journalist and Cuban activist, who in January 2022 was forced into exile in exchange for his freedom, together with fellow independent journalist Héctor Luis Valdés Cocho.

    Esteban Rodríguez was one of the Obispo Street protestors on April 30, 2021 who protested in solidarity with Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara, and was also part of the San Isidro hunger strike at Damas 955 in November 2020.

    In this conversation, he narrates the details of his experience in Cuba, his beginnings as an independent journalist, his ties to the Movimiento San Isidro, his experiences in prison and his subsequent forced exile in exchange for his release.

    His testimony is a valuable primary source to understand the tactics employed by Cuban civil society to demand their rights and denounce the violence of the Cuban state.

    Bio:

    Esteban Rodríguez is a journalist and Cuban activist, member of the Movimiento San Isidro. In January 2022 he was expelled from Cuba together with fellow independent journalist Héctor Luis Valdés Cocho in exchange for his freedom. He was one of the Obispo Street protestors on April 30, 2021 who protested in solidarity with Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara, and was also part of the San Isidro hunger strike at Damas 955 in November 2020. In Cuba he worked as an independent journalist for the media website ADN CUBA. He currently resides in the United States.
