    In this installment we talk with Carlos Liscano, Uruguayan writer, journalist, professor and poet. Liscano, who was a political prisoner for 13 years, and more recently Vice Minister of Culture and director of the National Library of Uruguay, is without a doubt a luxury guest who is honored to share his experiences.     Carlos Liscano Fleitas

    Carlos Liscano was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, in 1949. As a young man he belonged to the MLN (Tupamaro movement). He was a political prisoner for 13 years (1972-1985), a period in which he began to write. After being released at the end of the Uruguayan military dictatorship, he traveled to Sweden, the country where he lived until June 1996, where he began to publish his first narrative and poetry works. His first novel, The Mansion of the Tyrant, he wrote while still in captivity, followed by El informante, El van de los locos or El camino a Ítaca, among others. He also published plays, poetry and essays.

    He returned to Montevideo, and worked for Brecha and El País Cultural. He was a professor at ORT University, worked for the Trilce publishing house. In 2009 he was appointed Vice Minister of Culture by President Tabaré Vázquez. Since March 2010, appointed by President José Mujica, he has served as director of the National Library of Uruguay. He was President of the (Copyright Rights Council) between 2013 and 2015. He was president of the House of Writers of Uruguay.

    His plays have been represented in France, Canada, the United States, Mexico, Costa Rica, Colombia, Argentina, Spain and Sweden.
