DIRECTOR'S BIO

Yimit Ramírez González
(San Antonio de los Baños, 1983)

Yimit Ramírez González graduated from the San Alejandro National Academy of Fine Arts in 2005, from the Higher Institute of Design (ISDi) in 2011, and from the EICTV in directing fiction, in 2018. He has won awards at various events, including Best Animation in the 6th and 9th editions of ICAIC’s Muestra Joven for the shorts Hombres Verdes and Reflexiones, respectively; the Mariscal Studio award for the best experimental work or video art in the 7th edition of the International Poor Film Festival for the short film The Beauty or the Beast; an award from the Cuban Association of Cinematographic Press (ACPC) for the short film Koala; the Arte+ award from the Cuban-Italian foundation CUBEART for the short film Windows XY, and best short film at the Frankfurt film festival, for Mataperros.

Other prizes include best short fiction in the 17th Muestra Joven for the short Gloria Eterna; best short fiction of 2018 in Cuba, given by the Cuban Association of Cinematographic Press (ACPC); best short fiction at the 18th screening of Joven Cuba for the short film Fin. He is the director of Quiero Hacer Una película, premiered in 2020 at Rizoma Festival, in Madrid, after censorship of the first cut by ICAIC, which was to be shown in 2018.
