    A Black lesbian woman tries to educate her son in a society that pretends not to be racist and discriminatory. Between school, the neighborhood and society, she finds a path of inevitable resistance every day.

    Gretel Marín Palacio
    (Camagüey, 1989)

    Gretel Marín Palacio is a filmmaker who studied at the Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA) in Havana, and later obtained a Master in Film Theory and Research at the Paris I Sorbonne University, as well as a Master II Professional in Documentary Directing at the Paris VII Diderot University. Her documentary short films have been selected by various festivals.

    Pero la noche won a Special Jury Mention at the Icaro Festival in Central America and a Documentary Mention at the New Filmmakers Exhibition in Havana; this film was also presented at the New Latin American Cinema Film Festival in Havana, and at the Cinélatino Festival in Toulouse, France. Le myrte dans la vallée was screened at the Roots and Routes Festival in Montreal, Canada. She worked as a producer and editor for the production company Geração 80 Produções, in Luanda, Angola. Her documentary feature film El Último País premiered at the Malaga Film Festival in 2018, was selected by the Rio de Janeiro Film Festival, in addition to obtaining the Memory Award at the Havana Young Filmmakers Showcase.
