  • SYNOPSIS

    Rafa and her disabled friend Yeni exchange choreography steps over chat; meanwhile, his mother writes to him demanding affection. At lunch, Rafa’s grandmother complains about her daughter’s delay in returning to Cuba. It starts to rain, the dirty river that runs by the side of the house rises. From the patio, Rafa sees some men fishing clarias, among them a Black boy whom she takes photos of by zooming in.

    Regis Guedes
    (Holguín, 1994)

    Regis Guedes graduated from the specialty of directing at the Art Faculty of Audiovisual Communication Media (FAMCA) at ISA in 2019. Since 2013, he began exercising different specialties within cinematography. He completed his training in different workshops at the San Antonio de los Baños International Film and TV School (EICTV): Directing Actors, Documentary Narrative and Experimental Cinema, as well as participating in international workshops, such as the one given by the Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami in 2016, and providing directing assistance in five works mentored by the outstanding director. In 2014 he traveled to Ecuador to study directing at the Instituto Superior Tecnológico de Cine y Actuación (INCINE) for two semesters, beginning to work at the Guayasamín Foundation in this city. There, he produced and directed several works in collaboration with groups of filmmakers. In 2015, he attended a documentary directing workshop organized by the Tisch School of Arts in New York City. Some of his works have been selected for screenings and contests in national and international festivals and events, obtaining awards and recognition. In 2018 he began to be part of the Board of Directors of the ICAIC Youth Exhibition and since 2019 he has held the position of Coordinator of said exhibition, in addition to continuing his work as an independent filmmaker. He has collaborated with independent digital media in their audiovisual sections, doing documentary work for the outlets El Estornudo and Periodismo de Barrio. He has been a winner of the Norwegian Fund for Cuban cinema for the projects El amor de las cucarachas (2018) and Parece sangre, awarded the Go Cuba-World Cinema Amsterdam funds and the INSTAR Award in 2021.
