Ricardo Acosta

    Ricardo Acosta is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS). A film editor, script consultant, creative consultant and publisher of international prestige, Ricardo Acosta has been working in the film industry for more than 25 years. In the last 15 years, 14 of Ricardo’s films have won or been nominated for best film in their category. An Emmy winner and nominee for the Canadian Industry Genie and Gemini Awards, the Canadian Association of Film Editors Awards, and the Canadian Screen Awards, Ricardo arrived in Canada in 1993 from his native Cuba, where he studied film and worked at the world-renowned Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry in Havana. Ricardo has been a member (student and teacher) for several years of the Documentary Editing and Script Laboratory, as well as the Musical Composition and Sound Design Laboratory, both of the Sundance Institute.

    Ricardo has contributed his exceptional work and his great sensitivity to capture the human condition to the editing of numerous world-nominated and award-winning films, premiered at renowned international festivals, including:

    Sembene! (2015) by Jason Silverman and Samba Gadjigo, which premiered at the Sundance Festival and the Cannes Festival.

    Marmato (2014) by Mark Grieco, premiered at Sundance and for which he won Best Documentary Film Editing at the Canadian Film Editors Association Awards.

    Herman’s House (2012) by Angad Bhalla, an Emmy Award-winning film and broadcast by the prestigious public television program P.O.V. Ricardo was nominated for Best Documentary Editing at the CSA Awards for Herman's House.

    Tiger Spirit (2008) directed by Min Sook Lee and winner of the Donald Brittain Award for Best Social Political Documentary and the 2009 Genie Award in Canada.

    Runaway Groom (2005) directed by Ali Kazimi and winner of the Donald Brittain Award for the best social political documentary.

    La Toma (The Take) (2004) directed by Naomi Klein and Avi Lewis. Official selection of the Venice Film Festival, and nominated for Best Documentary Edition at the 20th Edition of the Gemini Awards in Canada.

    Shooting Indians, A Journey With Jeffrey Thomas (1997) directed by Ali Kazimi. Nominated for the Genie Award for Best Documentary Short.
