    CLOSING CALL DATE: October 2022

In Cuba, historical research and critical analyses with approaches opposed to official historiography are given very little space and barely circulate despite the great interest they generate. To mitigate this and attend to the need to generate memory, language, and public dialogues that question, respond to, and present alternatives to the government’s biased narratives, the Hannah Arendt Institute of Artivism (INSTAR) announces the Manuel Moreno Fraginals History Award for critical essay.

Cuban historian Manuel Moreno Fraginals (1920–2001) conceived a large repertoire of analytical tools and sources of various kinds that contributed decisively to historiographical thought. Hence, INSTAR takes his name and legacy as a reference for this award.
